12-week Assessment of ResistanceTraining Course offers in-depth didactic, demo and practice time for the Assessment of Resistance/Agenda Setting phase of the TEAM-CBT model. Course is designed to introduce, to maintain, to upgrade the skills developed by Dr. David Burns. Qualifies for Level 1 TEAM-CBT Certification and 50% off the application. 12 CEs to CPCA members, 12 CUs towards TEAM-CBT Level 1 and Level 2.

Training information

12-week Assessment of Resistance Training Course offers in-depth exploration of the Assessment of Resistance/Agenda Setting phase of the TEAM-CBT model. It is a 12-week curriculum spread out from September through December.

The group meets weekly on Tuesdays via ZOOM for about an hour. Additional 15 minutes are optional for any further questions and support. 

Time is 12:00 pm PDT/1:00 pm MDT/2:00 pm CDT/3:00 pm EDT. (PLEASE check your time zone here).

Date: September 26 through December 12, 2023

Certification Units: 12 TEAM-CBT Certification Units (Eligible for Level 1 Certification plus get 50%OFF the application)

CEs: 12 CEs to CPCA members.

Cost: $59 CAN (about $45 US) for 12 sessions. Discount available if cannot afford.

There is a requirement to fill in an after training survey and join a small break out group to practice a role play. In addition, Dr. David Burns Therapist’s Toolkit, ebook “Tools, NOT Schools” and /or the electronic tool package is highly encouraged.

Outcome Resistance

Addressing Resistance is the part three of the TEAM-CBT model and it has five steps:

1.     Invitation: If the client ready to shift to the active work?

2.     Specificity: What problem the client would like to work on and when this is the problem for them?

3.     Conceptualization: What type of the problem the client wants help with?

4.     Motivation:

a.     Outcome Resistance (OR): Would the client be willing to explore the reasons not to change?

b.     Motivation - Process Resistance (PR): Would the client be willing put in the work?
