Incorporating humour-based techniques into exposure training can offer a dual advantage by lightening the emotional intensity of challenging situations and promoting a more positive attitude towards them. Humour serves as a powerful coping mechanism, enabling individuals to confront their fears with a sense of playfulness, reducing anxiety and fostering a more relaxed mindset during exposure exercises. Furthermore, the inclusion of humour can enhance rapport between the individual and the therapist, creating a supportive environment that facilitates greater openness and receptiveness to the therapeutic process.
